The Congregation with its rich experience in the field of Education felt the need for well qualified and trained teachers to impart quality Education. The dream of the Congregation culminated in the establishment of St.Justin’s College of Education. His Grace, the Most Rev.Dr.Justin Diraviam. D.D., J.U.D. Arch Bishop of Madurai and the esteemed Dr.T.P.Meenakshi Sundaram, the Vice Chancellor of M.K. University worked actively to establish the foundation.

St.Justin’s Teachers Training College for Women was declared open on 31st July 1968, affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.

Rev.Sr.Beatrice Brown took up the responsibility as the first Principal of St.Justin’s Teacher Training College and continued upto 1970.

Sr.Delecta followed her and lead the college upto the year 1970-1978.

In the year 1980 Rev.Dr.James Celine took up the responsibility as Principal, the college had a capacity of 100 students, fully residential.

The college administration had a very good rapport with Madurai Kamaraj University. Academic results were very good and the college emerged to be a reputed one in the Southern Tamilnadu and the only Teacher Training College for Women.

Rev.Sr.Alphonse took over as the Principal in 1999. The college during this time moved with rapid development in activities and programme. The college prepared itself for the Peer Team visit by NAAC. Having experts in all the subjects the virgin effort was successful. The college was accredited with a B++ in the year 2005. The Institution found itself in the list of quality colleges in the country.

In 2006 Rev. Dr. Arulmary took the responsibility as Principal. During this time the M.Ed. Programme which was closed in the University for many years was opened in the academic year 2007 – 2008 . St.Justin’s College opened new vistas in higher Education through the opening of the M.Ed. Course.
The year 2008 has a historical turn to all the B.Ed. colleges for there was the establishment of a new university under the name Tami Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai (TNTEU). Our college was affiliated to TNTEU from 2008 – 2009. St. Justin’s College had begun as Post Graduate Course offering college with the name St.Justin’s College of Education. Initially 25 M.Ed.

students pursued the course and completed successfully. In this first batch of M.Ed., Rev.Sr.A.Mary Delphine CIC secured the 1st rank in the university and brought laurels to the college and set challenges to the future students. The college followed the university syllabus in the new system of having 200 students with 100 students per intake and 35 students in M.Ed. as regulated by NCTE in 2010 – 2011.

With the full house of students learning 8 subjects English, Tamil, Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological Science, History, Commerce and Computer Science the college had a new phase of learning educational degree courses. In 2011 June, the college reaped its harvest of hard work, efforts and quality training to the students and effective teaching of faculty members by gaining the result of reaccreditation of the assessment by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with “A” Grade.

The Grade points were 3.11. The college received appreciation and merits from the peer team for the strenuous, swift efforts and enthusiasm and vigour of the faculty of the college.

In June 2013 The President of the college Rev. Sr. Antony Xavier CIC and Superior General of the congregation appointed Rev.Dr.A.Mary Delphine as the Principal and Rev.Sr.Amlorpavam as Secretary of the college.
The college flourished and started having its glorious years by becoming the reliable stakeholder of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai by sharing its various responsibilities such as Central Valuation as center for Marks Distribution, as center for Degrees Certificates Distribution and the Principal Rev.Dr.A.Mary Delphine as Nodal Officer for Single Window Counseling for Southern Districts, Convener for District and Zonal Sports and Cultural Meets organized by TNTEU and Observer for Theory Examinations at various centers.
Expertise of many of our Faculty Members were utilized in the services of B.Ed. Practical Examinations as conveners and Examiners. Rev. Dr. A. Mary Delphine has been appointed as Camp Officer for Central Valuation and Examiner for Dissertation Valuation.
Every year the college has organized Conferences- so far 7 conferences were organized out of which 3 are national and 4 International. Many Professors, Research Scholars and Students benefit through this programme to upgrade their academic profile through Paper presentations and Publications. Nearly 2000 papers presented and Published till now.

In the academic years 2013 – 2015 the college offered its services to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapally to be its centre to have M.Ed. Degree Course in Distance Education Mode. 25 Meritorious students were selected, studied for two years and gained their Degrees through the expertise of our staff. In 2014 The Principal Dr. A. Mary Delphine received the BEST EDUCATIONIST award from the INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION AND MANAGEMENT.

In 2015 the college was identified as the Best Institution in Madurai and the Principal received the award for the same. The College’s Special features were telecast by Podhigai TV which is an honour in the history of the college.
On 20th February 2016 St.Justin’s College was awarded the Best B.Ed College and Kalvichevai Award. In the academic year 2015-2016 Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU) by the decision of NCTE introduced the system into two year course for both B. Ed and M. Ed with the intake of 200 B. Ed and 50 M. Ed students.

The College was the winner of the Adhitya TV award on 16.12.2018. On 6th October 2018 Our College celebrated its Golden Jubilee Celebration reminiscending the golden services to God and Country in the past 50 years and received wishes from Papal Pope Francis, Vatican City, Italy. The college was awarded the Educational Excellence Award on 09.02.2019 by SS info TV. The college has been a part of Assist World Record done by TNTEU in the Academic Year 2020-21 and also participated on the occasion of the Birthday of 11th President of India Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – World Record of Longest Internal Conference by TNTEU and Assist World Record during 2021-2022 Academic Year.

6 Principals 82 Faculty members have served the college in Lecturing 43 Non-teaching Members have served the learning population. The college is a stake holder of UGC, NCTE, NAAC, Tamilnadu Teachers Education University Chennai and Madurai Kamaraj University in carrying out the Education for higher educational level successfully. St.Justin’s College of Education is currently treading in its 55th Year and aspires high in its Vision and Mission.
